1. Quick Start

Quick Start Guide (PDF)

  1. Open the portal via the link we sent you (check your mail folder, possibly spam) and log in with the details from the mail.
  2. Go to the “Car” screen and assign the displayed car user by clicking on the “Invite” button (bottom right). If the “Invite” button is not available, you are selected as “Car Owner” and can only manage access rights via the flinkey app. To invite users via the portal, remove yourself as a car owner and invite others.
  3. Download the flinkey app from the store and log in with the same access data as in the portal.
  4. Open the drawer of the box and place your key inside. It is not necessary to activate the box. The box is always on and comes with a charged battery.
  5. Once you have registered as a car owner via the portal or have been invited to the car, the car simply appears in the flinkey app. If necessary, please select the invitation link again. No special pairing between the phone and the box is required. Note: The box will not appear as a Bluetooth device in your phone’s settings.
  6. From now on, your vehicle is in the digital age – and you can open & close it with flinkey.

2. Installation of the box

  1. We recommend placing the box more towards the front of the vehicle. Preferred installation locations for the box in the car are therefore the glove compartment, the passenger footwell, or directly under the front seats (access from the front or back). In vehicles that still have a tunnel, the box can also be well installed on the tunnel (between the rear seats).
  2. Installation in the trunk is also conceivable. Especially if you operate a vehicle with a push-to-start function, the trunk is usually a good location for the box. Make sure to ideally place the box in the middle of the vehicle in the trunk, as some vehicles might not recognize the key fob if it is inside the vehicle (e.g., Volvo).
  3. Velcro strips are included in the package for attachment to the carpet. If you only attach these to the box, make sure to use the grippy side so that the box sticks to the car’s carpet when placed.

3. Charging the box

  1. Each box is delivered with a battery charge of at least 50%. This allows for use of about 4-6 months in daily operation.
  2. Tip: Charge the box to about 90% before commissioning to secure a usage duration of 10-12 months.
  3. To charge the box, a standard USB-C charger can be used. Since most businesses & households have countless USB-C charging cables by now, such a cable is not part of the delivery – this saves resources and avoids unnecessary electronic waste.
  4. Alternatively, you can simply leave the box constantly connected with a USB cable in the car.
  5. In the flinkey app, on the “Details” tab, you can read the battery level after the most recent locking/unlocking process.

4. Additional vehicles / boxes

As soon as the very first flinkey box arrives, you can also see it in your application or your web portal. If you have already ordered more boxes, you will find them, for example, as “new cars” under the “Cars” tab.

5. flinkey Showcase / Demo Portal

To log in for the first time, log in to the portal (https://portal.flinkey.com) with your personal access data (If you are the contract holder/buyer, you have received access data from us. Use the same email address). Simply select your car by switching to the “Cars” tab and edit the car details in the way you want. Upload a picture so that the assignees can more easily identify the car in the flinkey app.

6. General FAQ

Can the flinkey app be used with any smartphone?

The app is available for iOS and Android, so it works on all smartphones with these operating systems.

Does my vehicle have to meet specific requirements for flinkey?

No, flinkey works with most vehicles – as long as they can be locked and unlocked with a remote key from inside the vehicle. To conduct a test in your specific case, it’s best to contact us directly.

How does the keyless opening and closing of a car with flinkey work?

flinkey combines digital and traditional locking technology. The physical car key is securely stored in the flinkey box inside the vehicle. Users who have access permission see the car in the vehicle list of their flinkey app. A digital command to operate the key is sent via an encrypted, seamless Bluetooth connection.

How secure is flinkey?

Very secure. flinkey meets the highest standards in terms of data security and encryption technology. The box is always offline and only has BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) capabilities.

Where exactly are the data collected when using flinkey?

The data are stored on servers in Western Europe, complying with European guidelines and GDPR.

Can I determine which drivers have used the car?

Yes, you retain full control and can view log data in the flinkey app or the event list in the portal.

How can I enable others to access vehicles?

Through the flinkey app or the portal by inviting new users.

8. FAQ – App

How does the flinkey app work?

It acts as your digital car key, showing cars you have access to in the car list. The app operates both online and offline, with digital keys updating automatically.

What happens if my phone is lost or stolen?

You can log into your account with any phone after downloading the flinkey app.

What happens when the cell phone battery runs out?

That’s kind of unpleasant, of course. If you are in a hurry or have no way of getting power, you can simply log in with your account using a friend’s flinkey app. However, please don’t forget to log out again at the end of the process!

Do I have to pay extra for the app?

The app is free, but using our services requires a monthly fee.

What happens if you have no internet connection or no more data volume?

That’s no problem, because the system also works offline. Your cell phone only needs to be online once every 7 days to update the digital key.

Can I also use flinkey on someone else’s cell phone?

Generally, yes. It is important that you are logged in with your account. And, please, do not forget to log out.

The flinkey app is not doing what it should. How can I give feedback?

Apologies for the inconveniences! We are always trying to improve flinkey and would be happy if you could help us with your feedback. In the flinkey app you will find the option to send us your feedback. If you are unable to use an important function, please contact our hotline.
